Nowadays brands can get really creative with promotional content, and gummy worms are no exception. Today’s review is on The Trolli Deliciously Dark Escape 3d website which serves as a colorful gamified promotion of the brand to drive sales in the gaming community
Welcome to the website connoisseur. Thanks for popping in!
Intro ( overview )
A brand of sour gummy candy called Trolli has created a way to engage their audience through the intrigue of gaming. By scanning a QR code on the back of custom packages of the candy, the user is propelled into an adventure from the very beginning, taken through a warp through space, encountering some funny introductory comments along the way. It then deposits you on an extremely colorful start page with the phrase “Get Eaten”. Clicking on that directs the user to play 5 levels of a mini game featuring an animated gummy worm with instructions to hurry (it’s timed) to complete the instructions/mission for the level so you can reach the end and “get eaten” by the monster. It works on so many levels because the gummy worm states that its only goal in life is to be eaten, further encouraging users to buy the candy.

Design
The whole website uses retro and glitch effects, giving that classic, old-fashioned arcade feel. The background and features are mouse and touch reactive, and the features demonstrate excellent attention to detail.

Underlying technology
The site incorporates features that use WebGL, CSS Animation, GIF/SVG and 2D Canvas to make it come alive.
UX/UI
When the user first enters the website, it isn’t fully clear what it is promoting unless they are previously familiar with the brand. But it deliberately creates curiosity in the user to find out more. The music and sound effects of the game make the site even more interesting and eye-catching, as well as time catching. Our reviewers spent a while playing these games themselves, trying to get all 3 stars. So if the developers wanted to keep customers interested, it’s a job well done.
It is easy to navigate, and the background isn’t too distracting, while still being reactive to every movement of the mouse. The instructions were all very visible and there wasn’t any confusion about how to move through the site. The controls for the game were the usual controls for any PC and mobile game, and the goals were clear. It’s fun and visually stunning, and after each level it gives you the option to “Buy now”. When the user clicks that, they are directed to their main commercial website and deposited on the page with all the flavors to choose from.

Content
The website doesn’t really give any information on the brand itself, away from the obvious gummy worm characters it seems like just a fun catch for consumers to generate interest.

Compatibility, Performance, Responsiveness
It adapts to different screen sizes and works well on both phone and computer. The controls are optimized to a touch screen mobile device, and it maintains the same quality without glitching or overheating the device.. Based on our tests it works well on Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

Overview / final judgement
Trolli is a promotional website targeting gamers. Their research revealed that their greatest market is the gaming community, and they have capitalized on that by creating interesting content to grab and hold the attention of this audience. The site is compatible with different browsers, and adapts and performs well across the board. It’s fun to interact with and easy to navigate.
