Intro ( overview )

This is a 3d website designed to detail the rise of digital finance and labor. The user is taken on a visually stunning journey through the past, present and future of the virtual economy, and how technology has contributed to and continues to enhance this system.

The virtual landscape is becoming increasingly populated, especially after persons were forced to incorporate it into everyday life throughout the most recent pandemic. The website also narrates the uptick in the gaming industry, and how persons have become immersed in online characters and virtual representations of themselves, so much so that its given way to both licit and illicit methods to make transactions in these virtual platforms.

Design

The design of Atelier’s Virtual Economy is visually appealing and immersive, incorporating 3D elements that are both visually stunning and thematically appropriate. The layout of the content/information on the site holistically fits the theme, and had many stand out moments throughout the journey. The futuristic aesthetic is consistent throughout the site, with a color palette that  maintains a black and white geometric outer space theme. Some sections are primarily black and some primarily white. Occasional shades of blue, purple, and neon accents give it a modern, digital feel but there were a few instances when the information became a little monotonous to look at.  It could have been more visually appealing at these points to distract from the length of some articles. Close to the end of the article the background changed to a more colorful cloud-like theme, which contrasted the text better.  The layout is clean and straightforward, with clear headings and subheadings that make navigation easy for users.

Underlying technology

The developers incorporated WebGL, CSS Animation, GIF/SVG / 2D Canvas to make the site.

This is a parallax website, evidenced by the continuous scroll and the illusion of depth on the site.

UX/UI

The website is  easy to navigate, and the geometric design is eye-catching and immersive. It gives an outer space illusion, and as the user continues to scroll, the sharp angles and changing scenery give the user a layered perspective throughout the progression of the site. This makes the background very interesting for the user, and the ever-moving elements make it visually remarkable. Statistics were often presented very creatively.

The information is layered at the same area on the page and the presentation of the information is visually monotonous, and appears as an overwhelming amount of text. This can lose the attention of the user. The black and white theme could have been contrasted more effectively with the text, and there was too much information in one font for too long, that could potentially turn the average consumer off from wanting to read the whole thing.

Compatibility, Performance, Responsiveness

The website loads quickly and adapts well to different screen sizes, and the experience remains high quality and in frame on various devices, including desktop, tablet, and mobile. It works well on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

Under cool conditions, the website doesn’t cause overheating in laptops or cellphones, and works well with home wi-fi connection.

The site is user-friendly and highly responsive, with a clear navigation menu that allows users to quickly access different sections of the site.

Overview

L’atelier Virtual Economy is a captivating and informative platform that delivers a wealth of knowledge on the rapidly evolving world of virtual economies. All in all the site itself was visually striking, covered lots of relevant and interesting information, was easy to access and navigate, and provided the user with a unique experience. While it provides in-depth articles and interviews, the site could benefit from additional multimedia content, such as videos and/or interactive visuals, to further enrich the user experience and cater to different learning preferences.

Some parts of the site achieved more striking ways of presenting information, but this was sorely neglected in other sections. Adding more fonts, varying text sizes and colors could also make the experience more well-rounded.

Why does this website work?

Whether you are a seasoned expert in the field or a curious newcomer, the site provides an engaging and enlightening exploration of the complex and fascinating virtual economic landscape. It also bases several examples in popular games and familiar entertainment references so the average person can feel more invested or affected by the information. The immersive design and user-friendly interface make it an enjoyable experience for visitors.
